USS Denver (CL-16) → USS Denver (C-14) – The ship was known as C-14 longer than CL-16 – Pennsy22 (talk) 04:03, 11 September 2015 (UTC) Relisted. Jenks24 (talk) 13:24, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Pennsy22: This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:10, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- With ships that change numbers, are we supposed to use the first-used number, or the last-used number, or which number? Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:07, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- This is an answer I got from the Ship Project page-
- This, from WP:SHIPNAME:
- "If a ship had several hull numbers in her career, use the best-known for an article title..."
- uses 'best-known' which may not equate to
known as for the longest
but likely does if the ship wasmore famous under a differenet designation
.Pennsy22 (talk) 04:54, 12 September 2015 (UTC)- I would throughly disagree with Ships here. We're not in the business of promoting errors. If all the reliable sources were found, they'd outweigh CL 16 with C 14, clearly, as she was longer under that name. Suggest we stick with C 14. Buckshot06 (talk) 01:42, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard: Just wondering if we've come to a decission on this, it looks to me that we should change them to the "C-X" hull numbers for consistancy and clarity. It looks to me that this follows the rules that are in place right now, even though it could change down the road. Thank you for your time in this matter.
